Cannabidiolic acid (CBDA) is the acidic precursor to CBD found in raw cannabis and hemp, which converts to CBD upon decarboxylation.
CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) is the carboxylic acid precursor to CBD, present in raw, unprocessed cannabis and hemp plant material. Like THCA, CBDA contains an extra carboxyl group that is removed during decarboxylation (heating), converting it to the active CBD form. CBDA has attracted research interest in its own right — studies have examined it for potential antiemetic (anti-nausea) properties, anti-cancer activity in cell models, and anti-inflammatory effects. Some research suggests CBDA may have greater bioavailability than CBD in certain contexts and may modulate serotonin receptors (5-HT1A) relevant to anxiety and nausea. Raw cannabis juicing is associated with CBDA consumption without decarboxylation.
