Cannabichromene (CBC) is a non-psychoactive minor cannabinoid studied for potential anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, and neurogenesis-promoting effects.
CBC is one of the major cannabinoids produced by cannabis, though it is typically found in lower concentrations than THC or CBD. Like other cannabinoids, it is synthesized from CBGA. CBC does not produce significant psychoactive effects as it binds poorly to CB1 receptors. It interacts with TRPV1 and TRPA1 receptors involved in pain signaling. Research has explored CBC for anti-inflammatory effects (potentially more potent than CBD in some studies), antidepressant activity (synergistic with THC), and neurogenesis (promotion of new brain cell development from neural stem progenitor cells). CBC is found in higher concentrations in younger, less-processed plant material.
