The entourage effect is a hypothesis proposed by Israeli researcher Raphael Mechoulam and his colleagues, suggesting that the various chemical constituents of cannabis — cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and fatty acids — work synergistically to produce effects greater than any single isolated compound. This concept underpins the clinical rationale for full-spectrum products over isolates. While the entourage effect is widely cited in industry and clinical practice, rigorous clinical evidence is still developing. Key examples include terpene modulation of THC effects and CBD’s ability to reduce THC-induced anxiety.
