Il pinene è un terpene della cannabis con un fresco aroma di pino, studiato per le sue potenziali proprietà broncodilatatrici, antinfiammatorie e di miglioramento della memoria.
L'alfa-pineno e il beta-pineno sono monoterpeni biciclici ampiamente diffusi in natura, presenti in pini, rosmarino, basilico e cannabis. L'alfa-pineno è uno dei terpeni più abbondanti in alcune cultivar di cannabis. Produce un aroma distintivo di pino e erbe fresche. Dal punto di vista farmaceutico, l'alfa-pineno è stato studiato come broncodilatatore, inibitore dell'acetilcolinesterasi (potenzialmente controbilanciando il deterioramento della memoria a breve termine indotto dal THC) e agente antinfiammatorio.
