I terpeni sono una grande e varia classe di composti organici prodotti come metaboliti secondari nei tricomi della cannabis. Sono stati identificati oltre 200 terpeni nella cannabis. Sono responsabili dei profili aromatici caratteristici di diverse cultivar — ad esempio, il mircene produce note terrose-muschiate, il limonene produce note agrumate e il pineno produce note di pino.
