Le pinène est un terpène du cannabis avec un arôme frais de pin, étudié pour ses propriétés bronchodilatatrices, anti-inflammatoires et d'amélioration de la mémoire.
L'alpha-pineno et le beta-pineno sont des monoterpènes bicycliques largement répandus dans la nature, que l'on trouve dans les pins, le romarin, le basilic et le cannabis. L'alpha-pineno est l'un des terpènes les plus abondants dans certaines cultivars de cannabis. Il produit un arôme distinctif de pin et d'herbes fraîches. D'un point de vue pharmacologique, l'alpha-pineno a été étudié comme bronchodilatateur, inhibiteur de l'acétylcholinestérase (potentiellement contrant le déclin cognitif à court terme induit par le THC) et agent anti-inflammatoire. Il est proposé qu'il contrecarre certains effets cognitifs du THC grâce à son interaction avec le système cholinergique, ce qui le rend d'un intérêt clinique particulier dans la formulation de cannabis médical.
