Le myrcène est le terpène le plus abondant dans les cultivars commerciaux de cannabis, produisant des arômes terreux et musqués, et étudié pour ses propriétés sédatives et anti-inflammatoires.
Le beta-myrcène est un monoterpène largement présent dans le cannabis, le houblon, le thym et la citronnelle. Il est généralement le terpène dominant dans la plupart des cultivars commerciaux de cannabis. Le myrcène produit des arômes herbacés, terreux et légèrement musqués. En pharmacologie du cannabis, le myrcène est étudié pour ses effets analgésiques, anti-inflammatoires et potentiellement sédatifs. Certains chercheurs ont proposé que les cultivars contenant beaucoup de myrcène contribuent aux effets sédatifs associés au cannabis de type indica, bien que ce lien causal reste une zone d'investigation.
