Isolate

Category: Extraction & Processing · Level: Intermediate

A cannabis isolate is a purified extract containing a single cannabinoid, typically CBD or THC, at 99%+ purity.

Cannabis isolate is the most refined form of cannabis extract, containing a single isolated cannabinoid at purities typically exceeding 99%. CBD isolate is the most commercially common form, appearing as a white crystalline powder. THC isolate is also produced but is controlled as a Schedule I substance in the US at the federal level. Isolates are produced through chromatographic separation following distillation. They are used as formulation ingredients in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food supplements, and consumer products, and as standardized reference materials for laboratory testing. The absence of other cannabinoids and terpenes means isolates do not produce the entourage effect associated with full or broad-spectrum products.
