What is Watermelon Z?
Cultivar · Indica-leaning hybrid · also: Watermelon Zkittlez
Watermelon Z is an indica-leaning hybrid cannabis cultivar bred from Watermelon and Zkittlez, also known by its full name Watermelon Zkittlez. It is known for a sweet watermelon-candy aroma, with the "Z" signaling its Zkittlez parentage.
The "Z" naming convention comes from Zkittlez, the candy-sweet cultivar whose name itself riffed on fruit candy; breeders append it to crosses carrying Zkittlez genetics. Watermelon Z pairs that candy heritage with the fresh melon character of its Watermelon parent.
The name circulates in several spellings, Watermelon Z, Watermelon Zkittlez, occasionally Watermelon Zkittles, all referring to the same Watermelon × Zkittlez cross. It should not be confused with Watermelon Gelato or plain Watermelon, which are different (though related) cultivars.
Examples
- "Watermelon Z is Watermelon × Zkittlez, the Z tells you the Zkittlez side."
- Menus may spell it out as Watermelon Zkittlez; both names are common.
- Fruit-candy fans are usually pointed to Watermelon Z next to cultivars like Bolo Runtz.
Common confusions
- Watermelon Gelato: A different melon-named hybrid, related in flavor theme, not the same cross.
- Watermelon (the parent): Watermelon is its own cultivar and one half of the Watermelon Z cross.
