Hybrid

Category: Cultivation · Level: Beginner

A hybrid cannabis strain is a cultivar bred from crossbreeding indica and sativa genetics to combine specific traits from each.

Hybrid cannabis refers to cultivars that result from crossbreeding Cannabis indica and Cannabis sativa varieties. Modern cannabis breeding has produced a vast array of hybrids designed to achieve specific cannabinoid profiles, terpene expressions, growth characteristics, and effects. Hybrids may be classified as indica-dominant, sativa-dominant, or balanced. In commercial markets, the vast majority of available cultivars are hybrids, making the pure indica/sativa distinction largely theoretical. Plant breeders use hybridization to stabilize desirable traits across multiple generations.
