Phenotype refers to the observable physical and chemical characteristics of a cannabis plant that result from the interaction of its genetics (genotype) with the environment.
In cannabis biology, phenotype describes the expressed traits of a plant — including size, leaf shape, bud structure, color, aroma, and chemical composition — as determined by both its genetic code (genotype) and environmental factors such as light, temperature, humidity, and nutrients. Two plants sharing the same genotype may express different phenotypes under different growing conditions. Phenotype hunting is the process of identifying superior individual plants within a seed population. The term is critical in cannabis breeding programs for standardizing medical products and developing registered cultivars.
