Curing is the post-harvest process of slowly drying cannabis in controlled conditions to develop flavor, enhance potency, and extend shelf life.
Curing is a post-harvest process involving the controlled drying and aging of cannabis flower at specific humidity and temperature conditions. After initial drying (1–2 weeks), cured cannabis is typically stored in sealed glass or airtight containers and 'burped' (briefly opened) daily to release moisture and gases. Proper curing converts chlorophyll into other compounds, reduces harshness, develops aroma and flavor complexity, and stabilizes moisture content (‒62% RH). Curing durations range from 2 weeks (minimum) to 3+ months for premium products. Under-cured cannabis is harsh and grassy-smelling; well-cured flower demonstrates complex terpene expression and smooth smoke.
