The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a cell-signaling network in the human body that regulates a broad range of physiological processes including mood, pain, appetite, and immune function.
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a complex biological system discovered in the 1990s during research into THC. It consists of endocannabinoids (naturally produced lipid-based neurotransmitters), their receptors (primarily CB1 and CB2), and enzymes responsible for their synthesis and degradation. CB1 receptors are primarily found in the brain and nervous system; CB2 receptors are concentrated in the immune system and peripheral organs. The ECS plays a regulatory role in numerous physiological processes including pain modulation, appetite regulation, memory, inflammation, and sleep. Cannabis exerts many of its effects by interacting with ECS receptors.
