La décarboxylation est le processus chimique par lequel le THCA est converti en THC par application de chaleur, activant les propriétés psychoactives du cannabis.
La décarboxylation est une réaction chimique qui élimine un groupe carboxyle d'une molécule, libérant du dioxyde de carbone. Dans le cannabis, ce processus convertit le THCA (acide tétrahydrocannabinolique) en THC, et le CBDA en CBD, par application de chaleur. Le cannabis brut contient principalement des cannabinoïdes acides (THCA, CBDA) qui ne sont pas psychoactifs. Fumer, vaper et cuire (pour les comestibles) déclenchent la décarboxylation. Le processus se produit à des températures supérieures à environ 105°C pour le THCA. Un contrôle précis de la température et du temps pendant la décarboxylation est crucial dans la préparation de cannabis médical pour maximiser la puissance et préserver les terpènes.
