L'acide tétrahydrocannabinolique (THCA) est le précurseur acide non psychoactif du THC que l'on trouve dans le cannabis cru non chauffé.
Le THCA est le précurseur acide carboxylique du THC et est le cannabinoïde le plus abondant dans la fleur de cannabis cru. Contrairement au THC, le THCA ne produit pas d'effets psychoactifs à température ambiante, car sa structure moléculaire ne se lie pas efficacement aux récepteurs CB1. Lorsque le cannabis est chauffé (fumé, vaporisé ou cuit), le THCA subit une décarboxylation pour former du THC. Le THCA est étudié de manière indépendante pour ses propriétés anti-inflammatoires et neuroprotectrices potentielles sans psychoactivité. L'étiquetage des produits sur les marchés réglementés affiche généralement à la fois les teneurs en THCA et en THC, le 'THC total' étant calculé en fonction du facteur de conversion.
