A blunt is cannabis rolled in a cigar or cigarillo wrapper, or in a dedicated blunt wrap, made from tobacco leaf.
A blunt is cannabis rolled in tobacco leaf, either by splitting a cigar or cigarillo, emptying the tobacco and refilling it with ground flower, or by using a ready made blunt wrap. The name comes from Phillies Blunt, an inexpensive cigar brand that became the classic choice in New York in the 1980s and 1990s, and blunts spread worldwide with hip hop culture.
Blunt, joint or spliff: a joint is cannabis in thin rolling paper, usually without tobacco; a spliff mixes cannabis and loose tobacco in paper, the common European way; a blunt keeps the cannabis pure but wraps it in tobacco leaf. Blunts are thicker, hold more flower (often 1 to 2 grams or more), burn slower and are usually shared. The leaf adds a sweet, heavy taste and nicotine, which many smokers say changes how the session feels. Hemp wraps and other tobacco free wraps copy the format without the nicotine.
Things to know: the wrapper is a tobacco product, so a blunt brings tobacco smoke and nicotine dependence risks on top of cannabis smoke, and it counts as a tobacco product in many places for age limits, taxes and smoking bans. Flavored cigarillos are restricted or banned in several countries and US states, and the EU limits characterising flavors in some tobacco products.
