Live Resin

Category: Extraction & Processing · Level: Intermediate

Live resin is a cannabis concentrate made from freshly harvested, flash-frozen plant material to preserve the full terpene and cannabinoid profile.

Live resin is produced by cryogenically freezing freshly harvested cannabis immediately after harvest, bypassing the traditional drying and curing process. The frozen material is then extracted using hydrocarbon solvents (typically butane or propane). By skipping the drying and curing phase, live resin retains volatile terpenes and minor cannabinoids that would otherwise degrade, resulting in a product with a more complex, 'living' aroma and flavor profile. Live resin is considered a premium concentrate category and commands higher prices in retail markets. Live resin sauce, badder, and sugar are common product forms.
