A licensed producer (LP) is an entity that has received authorization from the relevant national or state/provincial regulatory authority to legally produce cannabis. The licensing process typically involves extensive background checks, facility inspections, security requirements, quality control systems, and compliance with GMP standards. License types commonly include cultivation, processing, manufacturing, testing, distribution, and retail. In Canada, licensed producers operate under Health Canada's Cannabis Act regulations. In the US, state licensing bodies issue cannabis business licenses under state-specific regulatory frameworks. Licensed producer status is a prerequisite for legal participation in regulated cannabis supply chains.
