Cannabinol (CBN) ist ein leicht psychoaktives Cannabinoid, das durch den Abbau von THC entsteht und oft mit sedativen Effekten in Verbindung gebracht wird.
CBN bildet sich, wenn THC über die Zeit oxidiert, wenn es Licht, Wärme oder Luft ausgesetzt ist. Daher enthält gealtertes Cannabis in der Regel höhere CBN-Konzentrationen. CBN hat eine schwache Affinität zu CB1-Rezeptoren und ist ungefähr 25 % so wirksam wie THC in seinen psychoaktiven Effekten. Es wird hauptsächlich wegen potenzieller sedativer und schlaffördernder Eigenschaften untersucht, obwohl die Beweise aus menschlichen Studien begrenzt sind. CBN wird zunehmend in Wellness-Produkten für Verbraucher als Schlafhilfe vermarktet. In legalen Märkten wird CBN in der Regel nicht getrennt von anderen Cannabinoiden kontrolliert.
