COA verification involves confirming that a Certificate of Analysis presented for a cannabis product is genuine, current, and matches the product being sold. Key verification steps include: checking the issuing laboratory's accreditation (ISO/IEC 17025 or state-approved), confirming the batch or lot number matches the product label, verifying test dates (COAs lose validity after a specified period), reviewing the full analyte panel for completeness, and cross-referencing test results against label claims. In regulated markets, regulators and dispensary operators are required to maintain COAs and make them available to consumers. Fraudulent or altered COAs are a compliance violation that can result in license revocation.
